What causes Okta login failure? ›

This event is triggered by a user trying to authenticate, while their account is in a "Password Reset" state. This is reported if a user has locked their Okta account due to too many failed authentication requests.

Usually the login page is “companyname”.okta.com. Alternatively, if you were sent an activation link email, the sign in page will be in the email body. Otherwise, contact your company's IT department to obtain the correct okta login page URL.

Operational: All Okta services are green. Degradation: Issues have slowed Okta services or reduced their functionality.

Check the Okta Verify and device OS versions to see if they may be recent updates. Sometimes, device OS updates or Okta Verify updates can introduce new compatibility issues. If this is suspected, reach out to Okta support for verification.

If you don't know your username, contact your company's help desk who set up your organization's Okta accounts. If you forgot your password, use the Forgot Password link at the bottom of the sign-in page to generate a new one. If the link isn't available, contact your IT department.

In most Okta Orgs the username is the same as the primary email address. The widget does have a password recovery flow where you supply an email address and if there is an account associated with it an email will be sent.

Reboot the device in question. Try re-enrollment or reinstall of Okta Verify app. Check for a potential Jailbroken device or a device with a custom security layer, an MDM solution, or other endpoint security that could be interfering with delivery or notifications.

Why does Okta keep locking my account? ›

If the user fails to log in the max number of times that is allowed, they will be locked out on that new device. However, if Okta determines that the failed sign-in attempts are coming from an unknown device, Okta locks out new sign-in attempts from unknown devices but allows sign-ins from known devices.
