WCW Wrestlers With The Coolest Entrance Gear (2024)

It's funny to think that one of WCW's all-time biggest wrestlers didn't use any entrance attire. Goldberg would just come out in his trunks and for him, that was enough. Other WCW guys had fancier entrances, although many looked bad. Others were simpler, such as jackets like Bret Hart or DDP, as WCW was more about serious wrestling for a while.

10 Best Pieces Of Entrance Gear During WWE's Attitude Era

WWE's Attitude Era wrestlers usually wore some interesting entrance gear, but which was the best?

The company did boast some guys with some truly fantastic ring attire, many of which have become iconic. They weren't just big robes or jackets but other great stuff that fit the character and elevated the worker. It's tricky, but these have to count as the ten best ring attire in WCW and a reminder of how the company could make their guys look amazing.

Steven Regal Looked Like A Lord

His Fancy Outfits Matched His Character

  • 4-time WCW TV champion
  • Held belt for a cumulative 557 days
  • Was in Blue Bloods tag team with future Triple H

Here's an entry many may not think of, but it counts. Before he was William Regal in WWE, Lord Steven Regal was a dependable mid-card heel, often reigning as TV champion. Regal lived up to the gimmick of being a British aristocrat, often coming to the ring in some lavish capes.

He shifted it up to those fancy frilly coats and later mixed the looks together for a unique coat. He added to it with his poses and carrying himself like everyone else was beneath him. Regal's attitude and those fancy outfits made him look like a top guy in WCW to aid his run.

Randy Savage Was As Stylish In WCW

No One Could Match The Macho Man

  • Debuted on WCW Saturday Night, December 1994
  • 4-time WCW World champion
  • PWI Comeback of the Year 1995

Already a style icon in WWE, Randy Savage carried it over to WCW with a new flair (no pun intended on his main rival). Those frill-covered jackets, the sequins, the cowboy hats, the outlandish pants, they all shone through, and Savage could mix them up like coloring them for tag-teaming with Hulk Hogan, Sting, and others.

Beyond the physical action, these wrestlers opted to play some mind games, by using their attire to mock their opponent.

When he turned heel to join the NWO, Savage altered it a bit with black outfits, jackets and those cool headbands with the "Madness" label over them. It only added to his appeal as no matter what, the Macho Man was among the most stylish entrance guys in all of WCW.

Akira Hokotu Was A Wild Lady

The Short-Lived WCW Champ Had Great Outfits

  • Inaugural WCW Women's champion
  • Vacated the title when she left the U.S. in 1997 with 168-day reign
  • Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame Class of 2000

The legendary Japanese wrestler had a stint in WCW's brief Women's division, including a run as its champion. As with her style in Japan, Hokotu came out to the ring in a variety of flashy outfits, many of them based on samurai clothing with lavish capes and more.

The biggest had to be her Starrcade 1996 outfit, walking out in an outfit that made Lady Gaga look reserved. The huge white robe, the white wig with headband and oxygen mask, it was so nuts you couldn't help but love it. It's a shame her time in WCW didn't last long, as Akira knew how to get attention with her entrances.

Wrath and Mortis Both Looked Awesome

Mortal Kombat-Inspired Looks

  • Wrath was Adam Bomb in WWE
  • Kanyon was later part of The Jersey Triad
  • Bryan Clark Was One-Half Of Kronik

Chris Kanyon and Bryan Clark debuted as Mortis and Wrath in WCW, facing off against Glacier and sporting some awesome looks. Wrath came out in black clothing with a dark mask, hulking cane and a far cry from his persona as Adam Bomb.

These wrestlers could have been more successful in WCW if they had different gimmicks.

Kanyon topped him with the awesome skeleton look, offsetting the green color. The multiple skulls were wild and intimidating. The mask, shoulder pads and belt looked crazy and set Mortis apart. While they had more success without the costumes, the pair did boast some fantastic looks when they started.

Scott Steiner's Chain Mail Was Nutty

Big Poppa Pump Looked Better With This

  • Started wearing it in 2000
  • Legitimate chainmail from an armory
  • Petey Williams and Jordynne Grace have worn it in tribute

When Scott Steiner turned heel, he shifted his look, adding on more muscle and dying his hair blonde. He also became known for some pretty insane but funny promos and a dominant run as WCW champion. Added to the act was the chainmail headdress he'd wear to the ring.

Steiner made it work, looking both bizarre and intimidating, which got him over nicely with crowds. The shots of him posing with that headpiece were fun and showed how "Big Poppa Pump" was a unique star, no matter his look.

The Road Warriors' Spikes Are Famous

The LOD Looked Fearsome With Their Mad Max-Inspired Gear

  • Like the name, inspired by The Road Warrior movie
  • Used the spikes in an attack on Dusty Rhodes in 1988
  • Only team to hold NWA, WWE and AWA World tag team titles

They had them before WCW and in WWE as well yet few wrestling looks were as iconic as the Road Warriors' spiked shoulder pads. They looked out of a Mad Max movie, pushing them harder and were actually better when they were smaller but clearly razor sharp.

While they were almost never used as weapons, just wearing these things got the LOD instantly over with crowds. Put the spikes with their smashmouth style and the Road Warriors were a force unlike anything seen in wrestling and becoming legends.

Sting's Jackets Were Terrific

The Surfer Sting Was Brighter

  • Sting had them custom made with his own cash
  • Sting trademarked the name before the singer did
  • His GAB 1990 jacket was the best

Sting was smart adjusting his look over the years with WCW. His jackets helped him stand out as often, Sting would come to the ring in just regular clothes. For the bigger bouts, he'd break out a variety of jackets nicknamed "the Sgt-Pepper" outfits for the design and a bevy of colors and patterns (like the American flag for the Great American Bash PPVs).

10 Best WWE Entrance Attires Of 2023, Ranked

2023 had no shortage of tremendous entrance attires, as the WWE roster continued to step up their game with their overall presentation.

When he took on the Crow persona, Sting's jackets became darker, more brooding and just as cool along with that bat as a weapon. Yet the more colorful Sting was fun with those nice jackets to be the heart of WCW for so many years.

Ric Flair's Robes Were Iconic

No One In WCW Had His Style

  • Olivia Walker was the main designer
  • A single robe weighed 45 pounds and could cost $10,000
  • Pink was the least used color, only four

You can't talk about classic WCW looks without mentioning Ric Flair. Before WCW as we knew it existed, Flair was breaking out for Jim Crockett with those robes. Few things were as fun as Flair doing a promo bragging about how much the robes cost and every one custom-detailed for him.

They did cost a few grand each and showed it, shining out and the variety of designs and colors were great. Flair would break out some fancier ones for the big shows like Starrcade and no one could wear them like he did. The Nature Boy's robes were integral to his character and WCW loved to show them off.

Glacier's Costume Was Better Than His Ring Work

He Looked Like A Video Game Character

  • Real name Ray Lloyd
  • Was a legit martial artist
  • The costume cost $35,000

Glacier was a letdown for fans. Promoted for months as this fantastic martial artist, he turned out to be a disaster in the ring. At least WCW got their money's worth out of that costume. Obviously based on Sub-Zero from the Mortal Kombat games, it was awesome in the patterns and design.

It looked like it was made out of ice, tough and bright and the cool mask added to it. WCW spent thousands on it and at least got their money's worth out of the look. Glacier could never back it up in the ring, yet the outfit is a reason the guy has a bit of a cult following among WCW fans.

Vader's Mask Was Marvelous

The Thing Billowed Smoke!

  • Originally Big Van Vader in Japan
  • Dropped because it was too complicated to keep working
  • Vader kept his U.S. version

He didn't wear it too often but when he did, Vader's mask was one of the most awesome in all of wrestling. It looked like something out of a sci-fi movie, hulking and huge, fearsome and brutal, especially when it billowed out smoke from the nostrils.

It looked cool enough on Vader's head but even better when he'd take it off and put it on the ramp or in the ring corner like it was glaring at the guy. It instantly turned Vader into this monster, terrifying fans and a key part of his push to the top to stand out in WCW.
