Big news for space enthusiasts! SpaceX is cleared to launch its colossal Starship megarocket from Florida, marking a significant step forward in space exploration.
The U.S. Air Force has given the green light for SpaceX to develop Space Launch Complex-37 (SLC-37) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station as a Starship launch site. This is a crucial development, as all 11 previous test flights of this massive rocket have originated from SpaceX's Starbase in South Texas.
"We’ve received approval to develop Space Launch Complex-37 for Starship operations at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Construction has started. With three launch pads in Florida, Starship will be ready to support America’s national security and Artemis goals as the world’s…"

The approval came after a comprehensive environmental review, including public hearings. But here's where it gets controversial: some voiced concerns about the environmental impact on the diverse wildlife of the Space Coast. The Air Force has pledged to implement measures to mitigate any negative effects.
These measures are designed to protect vulnerable species like the southeastern beach mouse, Florida scrub-jay, tricolored bat, and eastern indigo snake.
SLC-37 has a rich history, originally built to support NASA's Apollo program, which famously put 12 people on the moon between 1969 and 1972. The site has two pads, A and B. Pad B saw service for eight Saturn I and Saturn IB missions between 1964 and 1968, and later hosted Delta IV rocket launches until April 2024.
SpaceX plans to launch Starship from both SLC-37A and SLC-37B, as well as the historic Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center.
SpaceX shared their excitement on X, stating that with three launch pads in Florida, Starship will support America’s national security and Artemis goals. They also confirmed that construction at SLC-37 has already begun.
Starship, a two-stage vehicle exceeding 400 feet in height, is designed for complete and rapid reusability. SpaceX envisions Starship as a key tool for humanity's future on Mars and the Moon. NASA has also chosen Starship as the first crewed lunar lander for its Artemis program.
