Critics Consensus

Disney's inspirational sports drama formula might be old hat, but McFarland, USA proves it still works -- especially with a talented director and eminently likable star in the mix.

Dan R Not normally the kind of movie I would watch. I'm glad I did, an emotional and very well written version of a true story. Another Disney special. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/08/24 Full Review Angelina M I didn't really like it, but like for me, the movies I like, well it's hard to explain, but i just didn't enjoy this one. I don't like movies like this. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Teagan M Such a good motivational movie. Made well with good cast. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/12/24 Full Review Raphaël At first glance, it might seem a bit like another "feel good" movie. While characters might lack a bit of depth, take it like a stepping stone bouncing on water, taking you to the other side of a river. It's about the commitment to give a chance to forgotten people, and seeing past appearances. I enjoyed this movie because it tastes like hope and opportunity to turn life around. If you're looking for a family movies about values, opportunity and hope, look no further. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review SkyRo P This is a wonderful film, I can't believe I've never watched this movie. So I own this film, but I've never watched it, the only reason I bought the DVD was because I own everything Disney.Today, I decided to sit down with my son, and watch this film, and the story itself is so heartwarming and so engaging. And it's not the best film, because the fact that Disney took away the fight and then allow us to actually see it, or what happened, threw it off because you were kind of confused why this was even happening in the first place. But the characters are fun and the family is beautiful. But overall the bond between the coach and the players, I think it's a great presentation on the TV.I think the story lacked some emotion, and could've been written better, but overall it was a very enjoyable film.
