Get ready for an emotional journey with My Joy Is Heavy, a powerful and intimate theater experience coming to New York City! This Off Broadway production is seeking talented Equity actors to bring its heartfelt story to life.

Audition Date: Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM (Eastern Time).

Location: Actors' Equity New York Audition Center, 165 W 46th St, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10036.

The Story:

My Joy Is Heavy takes us on a journey with a young family in rural Vermont, grappling with the loss of a pregnancy. Amidst the snow-covered landscape and feelings of loneliness, this family discovers the unexpected beauty and humor that can arise from grief. It's a deeply personal and moving portrayal of resilience and the search for connection.

Roles to Fill:

  • ABIGAIL: CAST. She/her. A talented singer/songwriter/theater maker, married to Shaun.
  • SHAUN: CAST. He/him. Abigail's partner, also a singer/songwriter/theater maker.
  • MUSICIANS: We're seeking six exceptional musicians who are strong singers and proficient in their respective instruments. Each musician should embody presence, compassion, and enthusiasm on stage.

Preparation for Audition:

  • Choose a short song that showcases your vocal abilities. A piano accompanist will be provided, but feel free to bring your own accompaniment if you prefer.
  • Bring your headshot and resume, stapled together, to the audition.

Contract and Salary:

This Off Broadway production offers a weekly minimum salary of $1229 (Category CC) under an AEA contract.
